The treatments avaliable from Total Body Balance

Reflexology:  This is excellent in relieving migraine, stress, muscular pain, tension, anxiety and more.

This treatment involves the gentle manipulation of the feet and hands to stimulate the body’s own healing and balancing processes. Each pressure point on the feet and hands is directly related to a particular function or part of the body. All of the organs and systems of the body have their corresponding reflex point. Pressure applied to a specific point on the foot or hand energises the corresponding zone or function of the body, helping remove toxins and enabling the body to heal itself.
Reflexology is an excellent way of encouraging the body to heal itself. It is good preventative therapy allowing your body to achieve its natural balance (homeostasis) which in turn puts it in a better position to fight illness or disease. It does this by increasing blood circulation; unblocking the bodies energy channels; releasing the bodies own pain killers (endorphins) and stimulating the bodies own immune system thus promoting healing.
Self help can be demonstrated allowing clients to help themselves between treatments; for instance with pain management. If you suffer from lower back pain, we will show you which area of your foot to massage in order to stimulate the bodies healing mechanism for the area of the lower back.

Body Massage: This is excellent for poor circulation, stress, fatigue, muscular pains, rheumatism and much more.

One of the most ancient forms of therapy. Massage reduces tension and anxiety, calms the nervous system and promotes a sense of relaxation and well-being. It improves blood circulation, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells which make the body develop and work. It stimulates the lymphatic system which carries away the body’s waste products. As well as preventing and relieving muscle cramps and spasms.
This treatment can also be used to help the body ‘relearn’ movement and posture to counteract the effects of stress on everyday life. Many healthy people get massage regularly because it helps them maintain physical, mental and emotional well being. Massage should not be a luxury, once people have had a massage they appreciate how good it is and how invigorated it makes you feel. Once aweek once a month or once a quarter, it does not matter how often; you will always feel morerelaxed and generally feeling good after a massage
I am often asked. ‘Is massage embarrassing’? During massage only the part of the body being treated is visible. Towels ensure the modesty of the client is protected at all times. It really is not embarrassing at all.

Sports Massage: This is excellent for the prevention of muscle and joint injury through overuse.

A deeper form of massage for people who participate in physical activity or repetitive movement such as that carried out by dancers and musicians. It is a treatment which helps alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s tissue during physical exertion.
During treatment the deep layers of muscle tissue are massaged using a variety of techniques which assist the removal of built up lactic acid as well as treating soft tissue damage. Soft tissue when put under stress caused by over exertion; emotional; occupational or postural are at risk of becoming injured. Soft tissue damage leaves scar tissue as it recovers. This can cause adhesions between the tissue fibre impairing the correct functioning of the muscle which will eventually lead to muscle imbalance, pain and postural problems.
‘What advice do we give on the use of Sports Massage’: As a maintenance programme, carried out regularly it will help maintain good muscle condition; improve flexibility and aid lymphatic drainage thus improving performance.
As a rehabilitation programme, it will speed up the recovery process on acute or chronic muscle, tendon and ligament injuries.
As a pre-event treatment used in conjunction with a warm up routine, it will enhance circulation and reduce muscular and mental tension.
As a post-event treatment, used alongside a stretching and cool down programme, It will help reduce muscle spasm and the build up of lactic acid; enhance relaxation and aid recovery from training and events.

Indian Head Massage: Excellent to help reduce stress and fatigue, increase mental clarity, and relax and rejuvenate the receiver.

This is a treatment based on ancient techniques involving work on the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face. A variety of massage movements are used to relieve accumulated tension, stimulate circulation and restore joint movement. Indian Head Massage is also used to aid the condition and health of the hair, particularly when combined with the use of natural organic oils.
My clients find this the most relaxing and stimulating of all our treatments.

Hopi Ear Candles: Excellent for sinusitis, earwax, earache and irritation of the ears including tinnitus. It is also suitable for the treatment of headaches and migraines.

This treatment is very gentle and relaxing. The hollow candle is placed in the external ear canal and ignited. It is only allowed to burn to within 4 inches of the end of the candle. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air produces a chimney effect which softens the wax and draws it into the filter at the base of the candle. The candle is then removed and the ear and surrounding area is then massaged. The treatment is repeated on the other ear and then a complete facial massage is carried out, paying particular attention to the sinus areas.
This is our most popular treatment. The HOPI candles are made of completely natural ingredients and although there are many on the market we like to use the established ‘Natural HOPI Candles’.
